MY BLOG

Welcome to my blog!

I’ve resisted having a blog for a long time now, but I’ve been won over by the charms of micro-blogging on Twitter and now feel the urge to ramble on for far more than 140 characters will allow. Hopefully it will be interesting, informative and entertaining too!

On here you’ll find updates about my writing and my experience of the publishing process, as well as books/films/plays that I’ve enjoyed and want to recommend. I also love to travel, so there’ll be regular updates about where I’ve been and what I’m up to – in short, anything that takes my fancy!

I’d love to hear your thoughts and opinions, so feel free to get in touch. Details are on the Contact page.

If you’ve read my last blog post, you’ll be familiar with the Spanish half of my Spain/Portugal summer road trip. Leaving Spain behind, my boyfriend and I drove across the Guadiana Bridge and into Portugal (crossing the border for the third time that day, if you count the two zip-line landings). Following the road through the Algarve, we branched off onto the E1, the main motorway running north through the country, and on up to the town of Moita.

The end of September saw me and my boyfriend road-tripping across Spain and Portugal, in search of some late summer sun. We flew in to Malaga, and spent a day at his family’s house near Granada, before driving west to the beautiful city of Seville. Given that we only had a day or so there, the race was on to cram in some sightseeing, shopping, eating and drinking.

I first went to the Edinburgh Fringe back in 2001, when I was a university student dreaming of stardom. I was appearing in two plays, and I’d read tales of how Rachel Weisz had been discovered at the Fringe, so I was convinced the same thing would happen to me. Despite convincing one high profile agent to come to my show, she left before I made my first entrance, and sadly it wasn’t the big break I’d been hoping for!

To celebrate the release of Sunlounger 2, I thought I’d run through some of my favourite short story compilations. There’s a real mix of styles in here, from commercial fiction to literary, horror to erotica. Short stories are undergoing a real surge in popularity at the moment, particularly as they’re so Kindle-friendly, and the perfect length to read on your lunch break or commute. Here are a few of my favourites...

Our first proper view of Niagara Falls was from our hotel room, 32 floors up in the Hilton Fallsview, and it was just as breathtaking as you’d imagine. The Falls are huge – so much bigger than I’d been expecting – and they seem to stretch on forever.
